Strait Regional School Board Celebrates the First
Canadian School Counselling Week, February 2 to 6, 2015
School counsellors are valued members of our school teams in supporting student success. The role of school counsellors is to foster student growth with respect to their personal, social, educational, career development, mental health and well-being. The Strait Regional School Board thanks all school counsellors for their exceptional efforts in helping students achieve success in school, in their daily lives and in preparing for their future.
Throughout the Strait Regional School Board, school counsellors follow the Comprehensive Guidance and Counselling Program as set out by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. The Program consists of four components:
- guidance curriculum;
- counselling, consultation, and co-ordination;
- life and career planning; and
- program management and system support.
The components of the Program are fulfilled in a variety of ways such as lessons in the classroom that are co-facilitated with the classroom teacher; organizing special guest speakers and events to support career planning and/or mental health education; professional services for students who require counselling; as well as consulting with parents/guardians, teachers, other educators and community agencies.
During Canadian School Counselling Week, take a moment to thank your school counsellor for their support!
