The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Nova Scotia School Boards Association (NSSBA) are hosting school board candidate information sessions throughout the Province. These sessions will provide insight into the roles and responsibilities of a school board member, along with the nomination process.
The School Board Candidate Information Session in the Strait Region will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the Boardroom at Regional Office, 16 Cemetery Road, Port Hastings.
Specifically, the session will review:
- The roles and responsibilities of an elected school board member;
- A brief review of the Education Act;
- Qualifications to run;
- Filing nominations/processes;
- A brief review of school board governance; and
- Frequently Asked Questions.
The sessions will be facilitated by Regional Education Officers, Department of Education and Early Childhood Development staff, and NSSBA staff. These sessions are open to all members of the public.
