Congratulations to Mack Collasius, a Grade 11 student at Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy, who earned the Gold Medal in the Secondary Cooking contest area as part of the Skills Canada-Nova Scotia competition held at the Nova Scotia Community College Akerley campus on April 19 and 20, 2018.
Along with his Gold Medal, Mack earned a spot on Team Nova Scotia to compete at the national competition scheduled to take place in June 2018 in Edmonton, Alberta. During the two-day competition, Mack created a menu and demonstrated skills in meat and vegetable cutting. In addition, he had to prepare a three-course meal including an appetizer, a main and dessert. The competition was very intense and required accurate skills and excellent time management skills to finish and plate a product in the time required.
As the Nova Scotia Skills Competition website points out, the Competition provides opportunities for youth to explore skilled trades and technologies, enhance their skills, and strive for excellence in a chosen field.
Congratulations Mack and good luck at the National competition!
