Tamarac Education Centre Students Take Part in We Are Silent Initiative
Over 50 Grades 5 to 8 students at Tamarac Education Centre are taking part in a 24-hour vow of silence in an effort to give a voice to those who are silenced. Students who attended the We Day Atlantic event in Halifax on November 27, 2013, were inspired to bring this Free the Children campaign to their school.
The school’s We Day Committee are donating their pledge monies to Free the Children's educational programs aimed at anti-bullying.
The 24-hour vow of silence will end with a break the silence ceremony today, Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 2:15 p.m.
Some We Are Silent facts:
- 1 in 3 children in developing countries are malnourished.
- 1 billion children are deprived of essential services, like medicine.
- 30 million children under five years of age are living in areas of armed conflict.
Grades Primary to 4 students are supporting their peers with a short moment of silence in their classrooms.
Congratulations to all those involved in this initiative! Your efforts are inspiring!
